We are excited to announce an opportunity for the Mountainview family to reach out to our neighbors in the Square Mile and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity to build two houses for deserving families. This is the second year that Mountainview has been a part of the Habitat Helpers, a coalition of churches in the Denver area whose goal is to support Habitat as they work to build decent, affordable housing for all of God’s children. No construction experience is needed, just a heart to serve. Make it a family outing, or an opportunity for your LifeGroup to get “hands on” in the quest to bring God’s light to our brothers and sisters.
When: Construction begins August 19th and is scheduled to continue through mid November. The build days dedicated to Mountainview are Thursday, September 3, Friday, September 18 and Saturday, October 3 . All Wednesdays are open to everyone so it's first-come-first-served. There may be other slots that open up if a group can’t fill their day, so keep checking back for other available work dates. We also have dedicated dates to help on the other side of the duplex. Those dates are all Saturdays -- August 29, October 24, and October 31. If you want to work on any of these dates, please send an email to Mike Criner at habitat@mtnvw.org and he'll get you registered.
Where: 3054 and 3058 West Virginia Ave in Denver.

Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver is a Christian housing ministry founded in 1979 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. All Habitat affiliates including Metro Denver, are grass roots, community based organizations. Since its founding, Habitat of Denver has built over 350 homes in the metro area which house more than 1500 people.
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people from all walks of life to build simple, decent houses in which people can live and grow into all that God intended.
Habitat is a community based home-ownership program. They build one or two-story single-family homes. The homes range from two to four bedrooms, and most of the homes are between 1,100 sq. ft. to 1,300 sq. ft. Qualified families purchase Habitat homes with zero-interest loans and make mortgage payments based on 25 percent of the family's income. Mortgage payments are reinvested into the program to fund future construction.

The house we're sponsoring this year is being build for the Tinoco-Diaz famiy.
Sixto Tinoco and Julia Diaz moved to Denver over 9 years ago and have since been growing their family with daughters Melissa (11), Janette (7), and Brianna (1), and their son David (9). Julia stays at home to take care of their kids while Sixto works in mold removal at a local demolition company.
The Tinoco-Diaz family has been struggling to find decent housing for their family of six for a long time. They’ve lived in their current home rental for the past 4 years and can’t wait to move into a bigger and more efficient home. Their rental has only two bedrooms which requires everyone to share bedrooms and their son to sleep in the living room on the couch. The house is falling apart with cracks all over the walls and ceiling. Sixto and Julia feel like one of the two of them always has to be at home since the locks on the windows don’t work. In addition, the insulation is extremely poor making it uncomfortably cold in the winter. They’ve tried to turn on the heat but it escapes so quickly that it’s not worth the high utility bills to try and stay warm.
When asked what they’re most looking forward to when they move into their Habitat home, Julia and Sixto are quick to answer “more room for everyone and warmth in the winters.” They are especially excited for their son, David, to have his own room and no longer have to live in the den. Their kids have been asking them to move to a bigger and better home for years, and they can’t believe it’s finally going to happen for them.
Julia and Sixto have been so excited about this opportunity that they’ve already been hard at work on their sweat equity hours. In fact, Julia’s already put in over 100 hours and has been told to slow down until their home goes under construction. The Tinoco-Diaz family can’t wait to meet their sponsors, the Habitat Helpers, and to work with all of the volunteers to build their home. “Homeownership is going to mean a lot for us and our kids since they’re going to have their own space and privacy for the first time in their lives. Thank you to everyone who’s going to work with us and help us become homeowners for the first time.”
